Job Description
The Statistical Assistant is mainly deployed on – (1) performing data processing and data analysis using statistical software; (2) preparing simple computer programs and applying computer software in statistical work; (3) compiling statistical tables/charts and reports; (4) assisting in testing of computer systems of statistical work; (5) providing support in statistical surveys and/or daily business operations; (6) coding, editing and inputting questionnaire data; and (7) performing other duties in relation to statistical work.
Requirements
Candidates should have – (a)(i) an Ordinary Certificate in Statistics from the Hong Kong Statistical Society (HKSS), or equivalent, with two years’ practical experience in statistical work; or (ii) a Higher Certificate in Statistics from HKSS, or equivalent; or (iii) an accredited associate degree or higher diploma in Statistics, Data Science, or a related field from a recognised post-secondary institution in Hong Kong, or equivalent [see Note (1) & (2)]; and (b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [see Note (3)].? Note: (1) Applicants who do not possess the requisite qualification by the close of the application period, i.e. 15 August 2024, are regarded as not having met the entry requirements. However, current final year undergraduates or graduates of an associate degree or higher diploma programme may also apply; if selected, appointment will be subject to their obtaining the required academic qualifications within 2023/24 academic year and meeting the language proficiency requirements. (2) Candidates who have a recognised degree or sub-degree in programmes with substantial contents of Statistics (e.g. programmes on risk management, actuarial science, data analytics) will also be considered. (3) For appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth. (4) Preference will be given to candidates with: (i) proficiency in using Python, R, SAS and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel VBA, Access); or (ii) practical experience in machine learning applications or data analysis.
Terms of Appointment: (1) Successful candidate will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for about 6 to 12 months. Further renewal of contract will be subject to the candidate’s performance and service needs. (2) Working place: Any offices of Census and Statistics Department.
Remuneration
HK$22,145 per month
