Data Engineer (Azure & Databricks)

Key Responsibilities

  • Platform Engineering & Optimization: Implement, operate, and continuously enhance a scalable, secure, and highly efficient cloud-based data platform on Microsoft Azure and Databricks.
  • Automation & Workflow Efficiency: Design and automate robust ETL/ELT workflows to enforce strict data quality checks, improve data reliability, and reduce manual intervention by 30–40%.
  • Real-Time Analytics: Build and support near-real-time analytics capabilities that empower business intelligence, predictive modeling, and accelerated strategic decision-making.
  • Collaboration & Project Lifecycle: Actively participate in the full project lifecycle for data platform enhancements, working side-by-side with external vendors from initial design through to deployment.
  • Data Modeling & BI Support: Partner with Data Analysts to handle data preparation, advanced cleansing, and the development of optimized data models and visualizations in Power BI.
  • Testing & Validation: Validate complex data workflows and integration points using rigorous testing methods, including pipeline validation, schema checks, and performance benchmarking.
  • Innovation & Proof of Concept: Conduct proof-of-concept (PoC) evaluations for cutting-edge cloud data products to keep our platform ahead of the curve.
  • Documentation & DevOps: Create comprehensive operational playbooks, pipeline architecture diagrams, and automation scripts to streamline deployment, monitoring, and long-term maintainability for internal teams.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • 3+ years of professional, hands-on experience in data platform engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and Spark.
  • Deep experience with Databricks and Unity Catalog.
  • Proven experience across the Azure ecosystem: Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 (ADLS Gen2), and Event Hub (or Kafka/equivalent messaging systems).
  • Solid understanding of Power BI for data visualization and modeling.
  • Methodologies: Solid understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and core data governance principles (data quality, lineage, security, and compliance).
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset; a highly responsible self-starter with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who thrives in a team environment.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Relevant cloud data platform certifications (e.g., Azure Data Engineer Associate, Databricks Certified) are highly desirable
