Job Description
A Contract Dental Hygienist is mainly deployed on the following duties – (a) providing outreach clinical services to pre-school children, including oral health risk assessment, oral screening and application of topical fluoride according to protocols, as well as providing oral health advice and distributing oral health education materials to their parents and caregivers; (b) preparing oral health education programmes and oral health training materials to support oral health initiatives; (c) conducting oral health education talks for various age groups; (d) planning, arranging and implementing educational activities of age-specific oral health promotion programmes within the community; (e) providing support for oral health initiatives including but not limited to answering public enquiries and handling public complaints; (f) assisting in monitoring the performance of contractor(s) in performing outreach services, including but not limited to assisting Dental Officers in conducting audit visits / inspections and vetting clinical records; and (g) performing any other duties as assigned by senior officers.
Requirements
Candidates should – (a) have registered with the Dental Council of Hong Kong to practise as a dental hygienist [See Note 2]; and (b) have met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 [See Note 3] or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent; and be able to speak fluent English and Cantonese.? Note: (1) Subject to the prevailing situation, candidates may be considered for the granting of increments with post-registration experience as a dental hygienist. (2) Candidates who are expected to meet the requirement within six months after the application may also apply. (3) For appointment purpose, ‘Grade C’ and ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 3’ and ‘Level 2’ respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth. (4) A Contract Dental Hygienist is required to wear uniform whilst on duty and may be required to work outside normal office hours.
Terms of Appointment: A successful candidate will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for 12 months. Renewal of contract will be subject to the service need of the Department and the performance of the candidate.
Remuneration
HK$19,535 to HK$26,590 per month [See Note (1)]
Fringe Benefits Rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), annual leave, maternity/paternity leave and sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions in the Employment Ordinance (Cap. 57). For a contract period of less than 12 months, the paid annual leave entitled will be calculated on a pro-rata basis.

The title of the post being applied for and the on-line application number should be quoted in the e-mail and copies of the supporting documents. If candidates fail to provide the supporting documents as required, their applications will not be considered. Applicants should provide their e-mail addresses on the application forms. Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation by e-mail in about six to eight weeks after the application is received. Those who are not invited for interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
