Job Description
Successful candidates will be deployed to sections/offices in the Works Branch of the Development Bureau to undertake the following duties (Notes 5 and 6) – (a) to provide technical support on planning and implementation of grading assessment of built heritage items; (b) to conduct research and prepare architectural appraisals on built heritage items; (c) to comment on the heritage implications of development and project proposals; (d) to manage major restoration projects assigned and initiated by the Antiquities and Monuments Office; (e) to provide technical advice and assist in the implementation of various heritage conservation schemes, such as Heritage Impact Assessments, Revitalising Historic Buildings through Partnership Scheme, and Financial Assistance for Maintenance Scheme; and (f) to perform any other duties assigned.
Requirements
Applicants should – (a) have a bachelor’s degree in Architecture, from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent; (b) be Members of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (“HKIA”), or equivalent; and Registered Architects of the Architects Registration Board of Hong Kong (Notes 1 and 2)); (c) have at least two years’ post-qualification full-time working experience in relevant field, including experience in built heritage conservation (Note 3); and (d) have met the language proficiency requirements of “Level 2” (Note 4) or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (“HKCEE”), or equivalent; (e) preferably have obtained a certificate in Built Heritage Conservation or Architectural Conservation, or equivalent. Your application will NOT be considered if you fail to meet any of the entry requirements (a) to (d) by the closing date for application. Note: (1) In order to meet the entry requirement (b), applicants holding non-local professional qualifications only should prove the equivalency of such qualifications, with supporting documents such as evidence of acceptance of their qualifications by the HKIA for admission to their Membership. They should submit copies of the supporting documents by mail to the enquiry address on or before the closing date for application. (2) Successful candidates should possess the professional qualifications meeting the entry requirement (b) during the entire period of employment. (3) Applicants should submit their portfolios (in A4 size) showing their post-qualification working experience in built heritage conservation by mail to the enquiry address on or before the closing date for application. (4) For non-civil service appointment purpose, “Grade E” in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to “Level 2” in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth. (5) Successful candidates may be required to work irregular hours and on public holidays. (6) Successful candidates may be required to perform outdoor duties.
Terms of Appointment: Successful candidates will be employed on non-civil service contract terms for a period of around one year. Renewal of contract will be subject to the service need of the Works Branch of the Development Bureau and the candidate’s performance.
Remuneration
HK$65,300 per month
Fringe Benefits A gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract period with consistently high standard of performance. The amount of gratuity payable will be the sum which, when added to the Government’s contribution to the Mandatory Provident Fund (“MPF”) Scheme as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, equals to 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period. The benefits in respect of rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), annual leave, maternity/paternity leave and sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance and confirmed at the time of the offer of appointment.
