Laboratory Technicians III are mainly deployed on undertaking on-the-job training in a laboratory, in a special education services centre, in a teaching centre or in a lecturing theatre to – (a) purchase stores and equipment, and to keep stores and inventory; (b) prepare and set up apparatus for students' experiments and teachers' demonstration; (c) assist teachers in performing demonstrations, and to assist in maintaining laboratory safety during students' experiments; and (d) prepare, operate and maintain audio visual and computer equipment. Training will be provided to newly appointed Laboratory Technicians III on a part-time basis at the Vocational Training Council to pursue the Certificate of Laboratory Technicians, which is part of the prerequisite for passage of the probation/trial bar.

Candidates should – (a)(i) have 'Level 2' or equivalent [Note (1)] or above in five subjects, including two science subjects (i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Combined Science [Note (2)]) in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) [Note (3)], or equivalent; or (ii) have 'Level 2'/ 'Grade E' or above in five subjects, including two science subjects (i.e. Physics, Chemistry or Biology), in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) [Note (3)], or equivalent; (b) have met the language proficiency requirements of 'Level 2'[Note (4)] or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent; and (c) have a 'Pass' result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test (BLNST). Candidates should be responsible, self-motivated and enthusiastic; have a fine character and integrity; be committed to serving in the education field; and be able to communicate effectively in Chinese and English.? Note: (1) For civil service appointment purpose, "Attained" in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects) in the HKDSEE is accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE. Additionally, Grade E in Other Languages subjects in the 2024 HKDSEE or before is accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in HKDSEE. A2 or above in French / German / Spanish; or N3 or above in Japanese; or TOPIK II Grade 3 or above in Korean in the Other Languages subjects in the 2025 HKDSEE and onwards are accepted as equivalent to Level 2/Level 3 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE. (2)(i) 'Level 2' or above in both components of the Combined Science subject in the HKDSEE can be counted as two science subjects. Applicants should possess four other subjects at 'Level 2' or equivalent or above; and (ii)'Level 2' or above in Physics/Chemistry/Biology and a component of Combined Science in the HKDSEE can be counted as two science subjects provided that they are not overlapping. If one of the components of the Combined Science subject overlaps with the other science subject, applicants should possess four other subjects at 'Level 2' or equivalent or above even if the overall grading of the Combined Science subject is at 'Level 2' or above. (3) The subjects may include Chinese Language and English Language. (4) For civil service appointment purpose, 'Grade E' in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to 'Level 2' in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth. (5) All applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their knowledge of the Basic Law and National Security Law. A pass result in the BLNST is an entry requirement for all civil service jobs. Only those candidates who have passed the BLNST will be considered for appointment. (6) For candidates who have not taken the relevant BLNST or have not attained a pass result in the relevant BLNST at the time of application, they may still apply for the job and arrangements will be made for them to take the relevant BLNST during the recruitment process.
Terms of Appointment: A new recruit will be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms [General Notes (b) to (d)].
