Senior Registered Nurse (Paediatric Ward)

Job Descriptions

1. Daily Operations & Case Management

  • Support the efficient, safe, and effective delivery of ward based clinical services to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Maintain up to date clinical knowledge through continuous learning to support evidence based nursing practice.
  • Comply with hospital policies, infection control standards, and occupational health and safety guidelines.
  • Execute staff deployment in accordance with Duty Manager arrangements and provide operational support when required.
  • Provide assistance to other clinical teams and departments to ensure coordination of care and service continuity.

2. Customer Service & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Manage and resolve immediate patient, relative, or service related concerns in a professional, empathetic, and courteous manner.
  • Deliver patient and family education to promote understanding of care plans, treatment processes, and discharge instructions.
  • Uphold high service standards to support a positive patient experience and departmental quality objectives.

3. Patient, Relative, and Doctor Satisfaction (NPS)

  • Support departmental initiatives aimed at improving patient, relative, and doctor satisfaction and overall NPS performance.
  • Participate in service recovery efforts by ensuring timely follow up and resolution of concerns.
  • Contribute to a patient centred ward environment that prioritizes safety, compassion, dignity, and efficiency.

4. Supervision & Staff Development

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and guidance to junior nursing staff, including day-to-day performance monitoring and competency support.
  • Identify learning needs and performance gaps, providing coaching, mentoring, or escalation as appropriate.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and supportive working environment within the ward.

5. Clinical Excellence & Documentation

  • Ensure accurate, complete, and timely clinical documentation in compliance with professional and legal requirements, maintaining strict patient confidentiality.
  • Promote adherence to clinical standards, patient safety principles, and risk management practices.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities to enhance clinical outcomes and ward performance.

6. Communication & Collaboration

  • Facilitate effective communication with doctors, allied health professionals, patients, relatives, and hospital departments.
  • Work closely with the Nurse Manager or Ward Manager on operational, administrative, and quality related activities.
  • Support interdisciplinary teamwork to enhance continuity of care and service integration.

7. Other Duties

  • Perform any other duties as assigned to support ward and hospital operations.

 

Requirements

  • Holder of a valid Registered Nurse Practicing Certificate (Part 1) issued by the Nursing Council of Hong Kong.
  • Preferably a degree holder in Nursing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of post‑qualification clinical nursing experience, with at least 3 years in a Duty In‑charge or senior nursing role.
  • Possession of relevant post‑registration specialty qualifications is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in general ward inpatient nursing, care coordination, and supervision of junior staff.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with bi‑yearly recertification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required or preferred for wards managing high‑risk or critical patients, as applicable.
  • Strong clinical competence and technical nursing skills appropriate to inpatient care settings.
  • Good working knowledge of hospital policies, clinical guidelines, infection control, and current nursing practices.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, coaching, and mentoring skills, with the ability to lead by example.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English and Chinese; Cantonese proficiency is highly desirable.
