Works Supervisor II (Civil)
Job Description
A Works Supervisor II (Civil) is mainly deployed on – (a) carrying out site inspection and supervision of works, preparing reports and cost estimates of works, and keeping records; (b) conducting site tests and supervising the operation of equipment and plants; (c) assisting in the planning and implementation of programmes for maintenance works; and (d) supervising junior staff and managing stores. (Notes: Selected candidates may be posted to other Government departments; and may be required to work in remote areas and perform outdoor duties; work shifts or irregular hours and perform emergency and on-call duties during typhoon, severe weather conditions and other emergency events.)
Requirements
Candidates should have - (a) (i) obtained a Certificate in civil engineering from a Hong Kong polytechnic university/polytechnic, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education or a technical institute/technical college, or equivalent [Note (1)]; or (ii) completed a recognised Technician Apprenticeship in civil engineering; or (iii) at least five years' experience as a skilled worker in civil engineering; and (b) met the language proficiency requirements of – (i) Level 2 or above in English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, or equivalent [Note (2)]; and (ii) Secondary 3 standard or above in Chinese Language, or equivalent; and (c) a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test [Note (3)].? Note: (1) Final year students to be awarded the concerned Certificate in 2024 may also apply. Applicants invited for interviews must present the latest transcript of study for verification. Candidates must obtain the Certificate at the time of appointment. (2) For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth. All qualifications required should be obtained on or before the closing date for application. (3) All applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their knowledge of the Basic Law and the National Security Law. A pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test is an entry requirement for all civil service jobs. Only those candidates who have passed the Basic Law and National Security Law Test will be considered for appointment. For candidates who have not taken the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test or have not attained a pass result in the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test at the time of application, they may still apply for the job and arrangements will be made for them to take the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test during the recruitment process.
Terms of Appointment: A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
Remuneration
Master Pay Scale Point 9 ($25,115 per month) to Master Pay Scale Point 12 ($29,995 per month)

If candidates fail to submit the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) within the stipulated deadline, their applications will not be processed further. (c) Completed application forms, together with copies of certificates and transcripts in support of (i) academic qualifications (including photocopies of certificates and transcripts showing the results achieved in Chinese and English languages); (ii) technical qualifications; and (iii) documentary evidence of relevant working experience, must be submitted on or before 31 August 2024 by post to the below contact address, with the envelope clearly marked with “Application for the post of Works Supervisor II (Civil)”. (d) Applicants may also apply online through the Civil Service Bureau’s website (https://www.csb.gov.hk). Candidates who apply online should submit copies of certificates and transcripts in support of (i) academic qualifications (including photocopies of certificates and transcripts showing the results achieved in Chinese and English languages); (ii) technical qualifications; and (iii) documentary evidence of relevant working experience, by post to the below contact address or by email to the Appointment and Establishment Section, Highways Department (Email Address: hqane@hyd.gov.hk) on or before 7 September 2024. To avoid unsuccessful delivery of mail items, please ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage has been paid before posting. Mail items bearing insufficient postage will not be delivered to this Department and will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hongkong Post, where appropriate. An applicant will bear any consequences arising from not paying sufficient postage. (f) If applications are late or incomplete, or not made in the prescribed form, or submitted by fax or e-mail, or without copies of the relevant supporting documents, such applications will NOT be considered. (g) Applicants are encouraged to provide their email addresses on the application forms (applicants are responsible for ensuring that the provided e-mail addresses can receive the invitations). Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation (by email if email addresses are provided) in about eight weeks from the closing date for application. Those who are not invited for interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
