Department of Finance, Faculty of Business

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including relevant professional programmes;
  • Develop and implement innovative pedagogical activities and instructional strategies to support diverse student learning needs and enhance academic outcomes;
  • Undertake duties in course, programme, and curriculum review and development, ensuring alignment with current industry practices and disciplinary advancements;
  • Review and prepare teaching and learning materials, including case studies, simulations, and technology-enhanced resources;
  • Provide support for programme accreditation exercises, such as LPA and re-LPA, ensuring compliance with relevant quality assurance requirements;
  • Mark students' assignments, reports, and examination scripts, providing constructive feedback for continuous improvement;
  • Conduct impactful research in finance and related disciplines, leading to publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, and knowledge transfer activities;
  • Pursue external competitive research funding and engage in collaborative research with academic, industry, and professional partners to maximise the application and reach of research outputs;
  • Perform academic and administrative duties, attend meetings related to student and academic administration, and contribute to departmental governance;
  • Engage in continuous professional development in both pedagogy and research to remain current with evolving educational standards and financial innovations;
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements:

  • A PhD degree in finance or a closely related field;
  • Professional qualifications (CFA, FRM, or equivalent) are preferred;
  • Tertiary teaching experience with demonstrated ability to apply effective pedagogical approaches in finance education;
  • A strong and sustained publication record evidencing research capability and, where possible, research impact (e.g., citations, grants, industry application, or policy influence);
  • Keen and affable teacher with a commitment to student development and learning enhancement;
  • Demonstrated capability or clear potential to develop pedagogical activities that improve student learning outcomes;
  • Good leadership, interpersonal, and team-building skills;
  • Strong communication skills in both English and Putonghua (written and spoken);
  • Expertise and qualifications relevant to Fintech, big data, deep learning applications, or other emerging areas in finance are preferred;
  • Willing to engage in interdisciplinary teaching and learning activities.
