We are now looking for a suitable person to fill the following position in the Library:
Library Officer / Assistant Library Officer (Acquisitions) (LIB) (Ref: 24002B3)
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:
- Assisting in supervising and coordinating operations of the Acquisitions Section of the Library;
- Assisting in staff supervision and training, and policy review and implementation;
- Performing duties relevant to acquisition and subscription of library materials in all formats;
- Handling library user enquiries and liaising with internal and external parties;
- Assisting in general administrative duties including office management, event organization, and budgeting;
- Preparing timely regular and ad-hoc reports and analysis to support management decisions;
- Performing counter and shift duties during weekdays, weekends and public holidays; and
- Performing any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or his/her nominee(s).
Candidates
Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence:
- A recognized degree, preferably in library and information science or related disciplines;
- Relevant post-qualification work experience. Candidates with experience in acquiring and subscribing to library materials in an academic library setting, or familiarity with current standards for bibliographic and authority data (e.g., RDA, MARC, AACR2, LCSH, and LCNAF), will have an advantage;
- Experience in and knowledge of the Integrated Library Management System, preferably the Alma and Primo systems;
- Good computer skills and proficient in spreadsheet applications;
- Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (preferably including Putonghua);
- Strong problem-solving, interpersonal and organizational skills; and
- Good analytical/logical sense, self-motivated and with a strong sense of responsibility.
Candidates with less relevant experience may be considered for appointment as Assistant Library Officer.
Candidates may be invited to attend a written test.
