Temporary Research Assistant (Ref: 21001N0)


Major Duties and Responsibilities
The appointee will assist the Principal Investigator in the research project “Food and music: negotiating diasporic culture, identity and integration among South Asians in Hong Kong” (Project: R6332). He/She shall mainly be responsible for the following:

  • conducting literature review;
  • conducting interviews and participant observation;
  • transcribing interview data;
  • performing data analysis;
  • writing report;
  • providing ad hoc research duties out of office hours occasionally; and
  • performing any other duties as assigned to support the operation of the research project.


Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence:

  • a recognized degree in social sciences (e.g. Sociology, Anthropology, Social Studies, Cultural Studies);
  • experience in carrying out qualitative research with ethnic minorities; and
  • competence in computer skills (MSWord, Excel and PowerPoint, and NVivo).


Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • a high level of English proficiency and effective communication and organization skills; and
  • ability to work independently and under pressure to meet multiple deadlines.


Terms and Conditions for Appointment
Successful candidate will be appointed on a temporary full-time contract.  Benefits will be provided in accordance with the statutory provisions. He/she will work for the period between October 2021 and December 2021.
