General Manager, Portfolio Growth and Transformation

ROLE SUMMARY:

We are seeking an exceptional General Manager to lead our strategic market expansion and drive transformational growth across Mainland China and Hong Kong markets. This pivotal leadership role will focus on accelerating the development of our B2B exhibition portfolios whilst identifying and capitalising on new business opportunities across both markets.

The successful candidate will define and implement our regional business strategy, lead high-performing cross-functional teams, and establish Informa Markets as the dominant player in the Mainland China and Hong Kong exhibition industry. This position demands a proven leader with extensive senior management experience in building and scaling exhibition businesses, combined with deep regional market knowledge and the expertise to navigate complex cross-border regulatory environments whilst consistently delivering strong financial performance and shareholder returns.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & STRATEGIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Government Relations & Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain senior-level relationships with government officials, industry associations, and key stakeholders in both Mainland China and Hong Kong to ensure business success and regulatory compliance
  • Regional Strategy & Business Leadership: Lead portfolio transformation initiatives, developing innovative exhibition concepts and market positioning strategies that redefine industry standards and capture emerging market opportunities across diverse sectors within Mainland China and Hong Kong
  • Portfolio Development & Innovation: Drive excellence in exhibition portfolio management, implementing breakthrough strategies that enhance market penetration and establish competitive advantages across key industry verticals
  • Cross-Border Operations Management: Oversee integrated business operations between Hong Kong and Mainland China, leveraging the unique advantages of both markets to create synergies and drive business expansion
  • Financial Performance & Growth: Deliver exceptional business results through revenue optimisation exceeding USD 80-100 million, whilst maintaining operational excellence and driving sustainable profitability growth across both markets
  • Strategic Partnerships & Business Development: Lead corporate development initiatives, identifying and executing strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and acquisition opportunities that accelerate market growth and enhance competitive positioning across the Mainland China and Hong Kong exhibition ecosystem

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Senior Management Experience: Minimum 20+ years of progressive exhibition industry experience with demonstrated expertise in China market dynamics, including deep understanding of local business practices, market conditions and Government relationship
  • Leadership Track Record: At least 5 years of proven success in General Manager or senior leadership positions is a must, with demonstrated ability to lead large, diverse teams including both commercial and operational functions across multiple locations
  • Business Qualifications:  MBA or equivalent advanced business qualification preferred, coupled with demonstrated expertise in strategic business development and corporate growth initiatives
  • Language & Communication Skills: Proficient in both English and Mandarin Chinese, with exceptional communication and presentation abilities for senior-level stakeholder engagement
  •  Market Development Expertise: Established track record of successfully launching, developing, and scaling B2B exhibitions across major Chinese cities, with measurable results in revenue growth and market penetration
  • Portfolio Management Excellence: Extensive experience managing comprehensive exhibition portfolios spanning multiple industry sectors, with proven ability to optimise performance and drive strategic growth initiatives
  • Strategic Relationship Network: Well-established network of senior-level relationships with Chinese government officials, regulatory bodies, and key industry associations, enabling effective stakeholder engagement and business facilitation
  • Cross-Border Business Acumen: Comprehensive understanding of Hong Kong-Mainland China business dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and cross-border operational complexities
