Contract Solicitor-(Non-Civil)
Job Description
Successful candidates will be appointed to work in the Legal Services Branch of the Land Registry and expected to:
(a) give legal advice on matters relating to the Land Registration Ordinance (Cap. 128) and its subsidiary legislations and applications for registration of owners’ corporations under the Building Management Ordinance (Cap. 344);
(b) conduct legal researches and assist in the review of the Land Titles Ordinance (Cap. 585) and the preparation of the Land Titles (Amendment) Bill and the subsidiary legislations, practice notes and guidelines; and
(c) perform other duties as may be assigned by senior officers.
Requirements
Candidates should:
(a) be qualified solicitors or barristers in a recognized jurisdiction as stipulated under section 2A and Schedule 2 to the Legal Officers Ordinance (Cap. 87);
(b) have at least 2 years' post-qualification experience in land law and conveyancing of landed properties. Experience in legal researches and familiarity with conveyancing practices in Hong Kong are clear advantages;
(c) meet the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent. (Note: For non-civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in previous HKCEE are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.); and
(d) be fluent in English and Cantonese.

Terms of Appointment: Successful candidates will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for 12 months.

General Notes: (a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. Remuneration
Salary: $70,465 - $82,105 per month

Fringe Benefits A gratuity will be granted if the contract is satisfactorily completed with a consistently high standard of performance and conduct. The gratuity, plus any contribution by the Government towards a mandatory provident fund as required by the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance, will equal 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.
Rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), maternity/paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance (Cap. 57). An annual leave of 12 days per year of service will be offered.

The C.V. should include (1) gradings of the subjects taken in public examinations from secondary education onwards (with exact dates of scoring the results); (2) results of LLB, PCLL or other professional examinations, listing the gradings of the subjects taken; (3) exact date and place of admission or call; (4) employment records with detailed description of duties; and (5) copies of the relevant academic and employment certificates and transcripts. Please state “Application for Contract Solicitor” with return address on the envelope. Please ensure that sufficient postage is paid; otherwise the application will be returned to the sender and will not be considered.
