Lead Consultant, Application

Job Summary

We are seeking a Lead Consultant. This role is perfect for a technically proficient individual who enjoys understanding complex systems but is also ready to take the next step in leadership.

In this capacity, you will split your focus between analyzing business requirements to design robust technical solutions (Systems Analyst) and guiding a team of developers/engineers to execute those solutions effectively (Team Leader). You will be responsible for the end-to-end health of projects, from initial concept and architecture through to delegation, delivery, and team mentorship.

 

Key Responsibilities

A. Systems Analysis & Design (The "What" and "How")

  • Requirements Gathering: Collaborate with stakeholders, product owners, and end-users to elicit, document, and validate business requirements for new systems or system enhancements.

  • Technical Specification: Translate business needs into detailed functional and technical specifications, user stories, and system architecture diagrams.

  • Process Modeling: Analyze current business processes and IT workflows to identify inefficiencies and recommend system improvements or automation solutions.

  • Feasibility Studies: Assess the technical feasibility, cost, and timeline of proposed projects.

  • Quality Assurance: Work with the QA team to define test cases and ensure the delivered solution meets the specified requirements.

  • System Integration: Plan and oversee the integration of new systems with existing enterprise applications.

B. Team Leadership & Management (The "Who" and "When")

  • Team Supervision: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of [e.g., Software Developers, Analysts, or Support Staff] , fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.

  • Workload Management: Allocate tasks, manage sprint backlogs (if using Agile), and ensure the team has the resources needed to meet project deadlines.

  • Technical Guidance: Act as the escalation point for complex technical issues, providing guidance and code reviews to ensure adherence to architectural standards.

  • Performance Management: Conduct regular one-on-ones, set performance goals, and assist in the professional development of team members.

  • Process Enforcement: Ensure the team adheres to IT best practices, security protocols, and development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).

C. Project & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary liaison between non-technical business units and the technical team, translating "business speak" into technical tasks and vice versa.

  • Track project progress, identify risks, and report status updates to senior management.

  • Facilitate meetings such as sprint planning, retrospectives, and requirement walkthroughs.


Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 9 years of experience in IT, with a proven track record as a System Analyst, Business Analyst, or Software Architect.

  • Leadership: At least 6 years of experience leading a technical team (formal or informal leadership roles).With more then 4 years of government project experience is a plus.

 

Technical Skills

  • Methodologies: Deep understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile/Scrum methodologies.

  • Documentation: Strong in modeling and documentation. Proficiency with  modelling tools (e.g., UML, BPMN) and documentation tools (e.g., Confluence, Jira) is a plus.

  • Database Knowledge: Strong SQL skills and understanding of database design principles. (e.g. PostgreSQL, MSSQL)

  • Architecture: Familiarity with modern system architectures (e.g., Spring Boot, JPA,  Microservices, APIs).

  • AI Development: Proficiency with  AI development tools is a plus.(e.g. augmentCode, Claude)


Leadership & Soft Skills

  • Bilingual Communication: Ability to speak the language of business (ROI, requirements) and the language of IT (APIs, databases).

  • Mentorship: Genuine interest in growing junior talent.

  • Conflict Resolution: Ability to mediate technical disagreements within the team and manage stakeholder expectations.

  • Decision Making: Capable of making quick, informed decisions that balance technical integrity with business urgency.
