General Counsel

We are seeking a General Counsel to lead the legal department and ensure alignment with business objectives for our client.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Define the strategic vision of the legal department to support the organization’s business objectives.
  • Ensure the organization's compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Participate in the development of management policies as a member of the executive team, ensuring legal adherence.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements, providing timely risk assessments for management’s review.
  • Identify and analyze legal risks associated with business initiatives, offering prompt advice to management and internal departments.
  • Collaborate closely with department leaders and key stakeholders.
  • Manage daily legal issues and oversee any litigation involving the organization, providing strategic leadership in these cases.
  • Deliver training on relevant legal topics to the organization’s employees.

Requirements:

  • Possess a LL.B. (with good honors) or J.D. from a common law jurisdiction and be qualified to practice law in Hong Kong.
  • At least 15 years of post-qualification experience in a reputable law firm or in-house role, with prior experience in the IT software/services or high-tech industry; knowledge of the public sector is a plus.
  • Experience leading a legal team to provide effective and efficient legal services.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of IT and intellectual property laws.
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation capabilities.
  • Proven experience in technology licensing and intellectual property issues.
  • Familiarity with corporate structures and transactions on domestic, mainland, and international levels.
  • Proficient understanding of government policies, taxation, and labor law.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for maintaining strong working relationships with other teams.
  • Fluency in English, Cantonese, and Putonghua (spoken and written).
  • Commitment to the organization’s values.
