HKDSE Coordinator (Based in Shanghai Campus)

The Role:

The HKDSE Coordinator plays a pivotal role in the successful implementation of a new curriculum and educational pathways designed to enhance student achievement and facilitate a smooth transition to graduation and post-secondary education. This position involves collaborating with educators, administrators, and stakeholders to develop and execute strategies that align with curriculum goals, support student learning needs, and promote engagement in the HKDSE process. The HKDSE Coordinator will ensure that students are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge, guiding them through their academic journey while fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

General Duties

• Under the guidance of the School Leadership Team (SLT) and Secondary Vice Principals, take a leading role in the HKDSE accreditation, establishing and maintaining all relevant files

• Ensure that appropriate HKDSE resources are made available to teaching staff where needed in conjunction with Heads of Department

• Ensure that Heads of Department are organising internal assessment and moderation of internal assessment, according to HKDSE criteria

• Ensure to coordinate and collaborate with the Career and University Guidance Office (CUGO) on academic, career and university advising for all DSE students.

• Develop and review handbooks and brochures and other informational material relating to the programme

• Support YCIS leadership on curriculum developments within HKDSE

• Attend appropriate organization-wide meetings and contribute positively and constructively to discussions surrounding the HKDSE programme and its implementation

Teaching & Learning

• Execute the teaching tasks assigned by the school, oversee the DSE teachers, and be responsible for the management of DSE subjects in Upper Secondary

• Ensure the appropriate delivery of the HKDSE Programme in meeting expected standards and practices

• Participate in the development of curriculum planning, resource development, unit planning, work planning, and teaching strategies in the subject area

• Contribute to regular Upper Secondary briefings with HKDSE updates and information

• Monitor the characteristics of high-quality learning and promote strategies for sustaining and improving high standards of teaching, learning and achievement for all students

• Ensure that teachers and leadership have information on HKDSE curriculum and programme developments;

• Ensure HKDSE teachers have access to professional development

• Collaborate with the Head of Teaching & Learning to reflect on students’ academic progress in the respective HKDSE courses within the framework of existing school reports.

Students

• Coordinate an HKDSE Taster Days for prospective students to support and provide information on HKDSE subject selection and appropriate pathways.

• Ensure that all students are clear about the requirements of the HKDSE Programme

• Advise students on HKDSE subject selection in conjunction with the Careers & University Guidance Office

• Work with Admissions to oversee the admission process;

• Accommodate transfer students and liaise with their former schools

• Set out and explain clear assessment deadlines for students

• Monitor student academic progress and coordinate support and pastoral care for students experiencing difficulty

• Work with other Coordinators and Learning Support to identify students who have special educational needs or are gifted and talented and know where to get assistance in order to receive targeted support

• Apply for access arrangements and in class support for students where appropriate • Regularly seek out student and parent feedback and adjust where necessary

Parents & Community Engagement

• Collaborate with MAD to assist the school in promoting and publicizing the HKDSE programme • Provide comprehensive information to parents about the HKDSE programme and the school’s successes and student achievements

• Inform parents about the requirements of the HKDSE programme, subject selection and the different study pathways available

• Contribute to parent meetings to advise parents on the pathways to university

• Inform parents on a regular basis of their child(ren)’s overall performance in the programme

• Conduct meetings with parents to set educational goals and help to facilitate smooth student transitions when required

Additional Responsibilities:

• The HKDSE is a key member of the Campus Leadership Team (CLT)

• Carry out tasks assigned by the Secondary Vice Principals

• The HKDSE Coordinator may be assigned a teaching load or additional leadership duties in addition to the HKDSE Coordinator role

Key roles and responsibilities include but not limited to the above. There may be times when school leaders need to request the help of the HKDSE Coordinator to carry out other duties.

Support:

• Support from the Head of Teaching & Learning, Vice Principals, and Co-Principals

• Release Time and Incentive Pay provided

• Professional Learning and Training as required

Professional Qualities:

• Bachelor’s Degree and recognised teaching qualification/license

• At least 5 years of management/leadership experience is preferred

• In-depth knowledge of and familiarity with HKDSE standards and practices is preferred

• Fluent in English and Chinese, able to use both as a working language

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate rationally with faculty, students, and parents alike

• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, administration, students, families, and key contacts at other organisations

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Proven confident and engaging presentation skills

• Evidence of a capacity to operate effectively in a cross-cultural environment

• An organized, focused and goal-orientated person

• Capable of innovative forward thinking

• High levels of personal integrity

• An ability to generate ideas and implement new programmes and systems

• Demonstrable understanding of ethical and reputational issues

• Positive attitude, flexible approach, excellent time-management and organisational skills

• Commitment towards school improvement and connected to the YCIS School Community
