Assistant Manager (Applications Development) (Ref. 21100809-IE)


The appointee will be a core member of the Administrative Application Services Section and be part of a team with major responsibilities on the development, implementation and support of the administrative systems of the University. He/She will be required to:

(a)    lead projects on the design, development, testing, maintenance and support of the administrative applications for the University;

(b)    liaise with users on the collection and analysis of system requirements;

(c)    manage out-sourced projects and liaise with vendors to carry out system development of administrative applications, technology implementation or upgrade for administrative applications; and

(d)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of the Office or his delegates.


Applicants should have:

(a)    a recognised degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline;

(b)    at least seven years of solid working experience in system analysis and design, and implementation of large scale and critical application systems;

(c)    substantial experience in developing and implementing web applications using Java language on Java EE platform, Websphere, Node.js, Oracle RDBMS, SQL Server, and preferably with development experience using React, EJS, Spring, jQuery, Richfaces, JSF, EJB and EclipseLink (JPA);

(d)    solid experience in supporting Human Resources, Finance or Student Finance systems and preferably with relevant business domains knowledge;

(e)    substantial experience in managing outsourced projects and experience in collaborating with vendors, users, developers and technical teams on project implementation;

(f)    strong analytical skills, good interpersonal and communication skills to work with users at all levels;

(g)    the ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English and Chinese; and

(h)    the ability to work under pressure and be proactive.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.  Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
