We are now looking for a suitable person to fill the following position in the Library:
Library Officer / Assistant Library Officer (LIB) (Ref: 2500042)
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The appointees will perform a variety of skilled library responsibilities to support different sections within the Public Services and/or Collection Development and Management divisions including:
- Assisting in staff supervision and training, policy review and implementation;
- Performing duties relevant to acquisition and subscription of library materials in all formats;
- Performing duties related to create, enhance and maintain bibliographic, item and authority records for a wide range of library materials in various formats according to international standards and in-house rules;
- Collecting relevant data and information for collection development and management to prepare reports to support management decisions;
- Assisting in the management of collection, stack, overall physical space and inventory;
- Assisting in promoting the use of library services and resources;
- Assisting in archives and records management duties including appraisal, arrangement and description, records scheduling, disposition, research and development;
- Handling library user enquiries and liaising with internal and external parties;
- Performing counter and shift duties during weekdays, weekends and public holidays; and
- Performing any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or his/her nominee(s).
Candidates
Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence:
- A recognized degree, preferably in library and information science or related disciplines;
- Relevant post-qualification work experience. Candidates with working experience in an academic library setting will be advantageous;
- Experience in and knowledge of an Integrated Library Management, preferably the Alma and Primo systems;
- Good computer skills and proficient in spreadsheet applications;
- Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (preferably including Putonghua);
- Strong problem-solving, interpersonal and organizational skills; and
- Good analytical/logical sense, self-motivated and with a strong sense of responsibility.
Candidates with less relevant experience may be considered for appointment as Assistant Library Officer.
Candidates may be invited to attend a written test.
