The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is a dedicated museum that showcases the exquisite artefacts from Palace Museum’s collections and collaborates with other museums in research, exhibitions, education and public programmes. The museum comprises 7 800 square metres of gallery space for standing and special exhibitions on Palace Museum’s collections of paintings, calligraphy, antiquities and historical objects, as well as thematic displays on world cultures and civilisations.
(This is a fixed-term contract position of 2-year with possibility for renewal subject to organisational needs and individual performance.)
You will be responsible for:
support the Exhibition Technical Support Manager in the production, installation, maintenance, and dismantling of museum exhibitions, including but not limited to multimedia equipment, lighting fixtures, display cases, plinths and mounts, graphics, and labels;
oversee day-to-day technical activities related to fabrication, object installation, and gallery maintenance;
assist with exhibition preparation across the museum and communicate technical requirements to external contractors and stakeholders;
coordinate, install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain in-gallery equipment and control systems;
perform carpentry and mechanical tasks, including small-scale woodworking, repairs, wall painting, and fabrication maintenance;
manage the museum storage and carpentry workshop, ensuring tools, equipment, and workspaces are well maintained;
jointly oversee inventory and storage of equipment and manage museum assets;
ensure accurate tracking and documentation of equipment movement during exhibition and storage activities, adhering to museum best practice standards; and
performing any duties from time to time as reasonably as assigned by HKPM.
You should:
possess at least an accredited Diploma or equivalent academic qualification;
have a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in exhibitions, museums, commercial galleries, art organizations, or multimedia companies;
experience in at least one of the following areas: exhibition fabrication, woodworking, lighting, or multimedia-related work;
holding a forklift license, green card, or Registered Electrical Worker license is an advantage;
be a strong team player while capable of working independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment;
demonstrate proactivity in learning new skills, asking questions, and offering creative solutions;
be willing and able to work irregular hours when required;
possess excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues clearly to internal and external stakeholders;
proficiency in basic computing and networking concepts, with strong troubleshooting skills for common software and hardware issues considered an advantage; and
have a good command of written and spoken English, Chinese, and Mandarin.
