Duties
The appointee will join a collaborative team responsible for the development, support and management of the campus network infrastructure. The main duty areas include, but not limited to, system/infrastructure/service design, service and project management, and service provisioning. He/She will be required to:
(a) lead projects related to the design, implementation, and support of campus network infrastructure, with focusing on wireless networks, wired networks, and network security for the campus network;
(b) handle day-to-day network operations, maintenance, and incident handling to ensure reliable and high-quality Wi-Fi and wired services;
(c) stay informed of the latest network technologies and recommend enhancements to meet the University’s needs;
(d) collaborate with internal teams and external contractors on network installation and maintenance;
(e) perform scheduled maintenance tasks during non-office hours if required;
(f) maintain standardised documentation, including operational manuals, procedural documents and network diagrams;
(g) communicate effectively with management and business stakeholders; and
(h) perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of the Office or his delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a recognised degree in Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline;
(b) at least five years of relevant post-qualification work experience in operating various brands of core network systems in campus or medium to large organisations;
(c) at least five years’ experience in operating Wi-Fi systems, including experience in operating hundreds of APs from different brands at the same time (preferably Aruba products), in campus or large organisations;
(d) extensive experience in planning, designing, migrating and implementing routing and switching network in campus or large organisations;
(e) proven experience and expertise in managing BGP and OSPF networks;
(f) familiarity with operating switch stack and Wi-Fi products from various vendors, as well as Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols, including but not limited to: 802.1D, 802.1W, 802.1S, LACP, MLAG, 802.1Q, 802.1X, ARP, Dynamic ARP Inspection, DHCP, DHCP Snooping, PVST, MACSEC, LLDP, VRRP, PIM, IGMP, DSCP, IPSec, NAT, UDLD, Storm Control, IP Source Guard, ERPS, etc.;
(g) proven experience in network infrastructure design and network systems administration, with hands-on knowledge of multi-vendor technologies including Wireless LAN, firewalls, VPNs, and load balancers;
(h) a forward-thinking mindset to optimise network systems for long-term success;
(i) strong problem-solving skills with an analytical mind, and good understanding of and familiarity with the technologies abovementioned;
(j) excellent interpersonal and communication skills as a team player;
(k) the ability to communicate effectively with various parties on projects and day-to-day support issues; and
(l) proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese, including Putonghua.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
