Salary:
Police Pay Scale Point 24 ($50,500) (as commensurate with respective entry qualifications) to Police Pay Scale Point 43 ($96,600) (Note 1) per month
Entry Requirements:
(a)(i) a Hong Kong Degree, or equivalent, with "Level 1" results in the two language papers ("Use of Chinese" and "Use of English") in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) (Notes 2 to 5) [Entry point: Police Pay Scale Point 26 ($53,850 per month) (Note 6)]; or
(ii) a Hong Kong Degree, or a Higher Diploma from a Hong Kong polytechnic/polytechnic university/ Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education/ technical college, or an accredited Associate Degree from a Hong Kong tertiary institution, or a Diploma from a registered post-secondary college awarded after the date of its registration, or equivalent, and Level 2 (Note 7) or above in Chinese and English language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent; or have a pass result in the Chinese and English language tests for Police Inspector recruitment exercise (Note 2), or equivalent [Entry point : Police Pay Scale Point 25 ($52,025 per month)]; or
(iii) A pass in two subjects at Advanced Level in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (2A) plus three other subjects at Grade C or above in the HKCEE (3O), or a combination of results in five HKDSEE subjects of Level 3 in New Senior Secondary (NSS) subjects, “Attained with Distinction” / "Attained with Distinction (I)" in Applied Learning (ApL) subjects (subject to a maximum of two ApL subjects) and Grade C in other language subjects, or equivalent, and Level 2 (Note 7) or above in Chinese and English language in HKDSEE or HKCEE or equivalent, or have a pass result in the Chinese and English language tests for Police Inspector recruitment exercise (Note 2) or equivalent. [Entry point : Police Pay Scale Point 24 ($50,500 per month)];
(b) be able to read and write Chinese and speak fluent Cantonese;
(c) pass a physical fitness test;
(d) pass an eyesight test which includes a visual acuity test and a colour perception test. Applicants who wear glasses or contact lenses can also apply for the post. Applicants may perform visual acuity tests with the aid of eyesight correction tools except for colour perception tests;
(e) must be permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region;
(f) have a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test (Note 8); and
(g) pass a medical examination (including a urine drug test).
Note:
(1) With effect from 1st January 2010, new recruits to the Inspector of Police are eligible for the salary payments from HK$ 83,270 (Police Pay Scale Point 39) to HK$ 96,600 (Police Pay Scale Point 43) by passing the Inspectorate Standard III Professional Examination and attaining advancement to Senior Inspector of Police.
(2) Final year undergraduate students graduating in the academic year of 2024 and penultimate year undergraduate students graduating in the academic year of 2025 may also apply. If selected, appointment will be subject to, among others, the attainment of requisite academic qualification (i.e. bachelor’s degree from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent) within the academic year in 2024 and 2025 respectively.
(3) Starting from the CRE held in December 2006, while candidates' results in the Aptitude Test (AT) paper are classified as pass or fail, the results of the Use of Chinese (UC) and Use of English (UE) papers are classified as 'Level 2', 'Level 1' or 'Fail', with 'Level 2' being the highest.
(4) Grade 'C' or above and Grade 'D' in UE of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE), or equivalent, are accepted as equivalent to 'Level 2' and 'Level 1' results respectively in the UE paper of the CRE. Grade 'C' or above and Grade 'D' Chinese language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the HKALE are accepted as equivalent to 'Level 2' and 'Level 1' results respectively in the UC paper of the CRE.
(5) Applicants with an overall band of 6.5 or above with no subtest score below band 6 obtained in the same sitting in the Academic Module of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within the two-year validity period of the test result are considered as having met the English language proficiency requirement (item (a)(i) of entry requirements) of the Police Inspector post. The IELTS test result must be valid on the date of application.
(6) Degree holding applicants will be eligible for the degree pay point if they possess the requisite results in the UC and UE papers in the CRE or equivalent at the time the offer of appointment is made.
(7) For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade C’ and ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 3’ and ‘Level 2’ respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(8) All applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their knowledge of the Basic Law and the National Security Law. A pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test is an entry requirement for all civil service jobs. Only those candidates who have passed the Basic Law and National Security Law Test will be considered for appointment. For candidates who have not taken the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test or have not attained a pass result in the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test at the time of application, they may still apply for the job and arrangements will be made for them to take the relevant Basic Law and National Security Law Test during the recruitment process.
(9) The new version of application form for Government jobs G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) is to be in use with effect from 26 July 2023. Candidates who make applications on or after 26 July 2023 should use the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023). If candidates submit the old version form (G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)), they will be required to fill in the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) afresh and submit it within seven days upon request. If candidates fail to submit the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) within the stipulated deadline, their applications will not be processed further.
Duties:
A Police Inspector will be deployed on various duties, including supervisory and operational duties, covering all aspects of police work. He/she will be subject to discipline under the Police Force Ordinance and is required to work shifts and / or irregular hours and work in an area outside the HKSAR.
Terms of Appointment:
New recruits will be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years, and may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms upon satisfactory completion of the probationary period.

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(e) 必須是香港特別行政區永久性居民;

註:
(1) 自2010年1月1日起新聘的督察人員,可透過督察第三級標準專業考試取得合格及晉升為高級督察,便能支取83,270元(警務人員薪級表第39點) 至96,600元(警務人員薪級表第43點) 的薪金。
(2) 現正修讀⼤學學⼠學位,並將在2024或2025學年畢業的學⽣也可申請。上述申請⼈必須分別在2024或2025學年內取得所需學歷資格(即持有由香港任何⼀所⼤學頒授的學⼠學位,或同等學歷),才會獲得聘任。
(3) 由2006年12月舉行的綜合招聘考試開始,能力傾向測試的考生成績仍分及格或不及格,而中文運用及英文運用試卷的成績則分為「二級」、「一級」或「不及格」,並以「二級」為最高等級。
(4) 香港高級程度會考英語運用科「C」級或以上和「D」級成績(或同等成績)分別會獲接納為等同綜合招聘考試英文運用試卷的「二級」和「一級」成績。香港高級程度會考中國語文及文化、中國語言文學或中國語文科「C」級或以上和「D」級成績則分別會獲接納為等同綜合招聘考試中文運用試卷的「二級」和「一級」成績。
(5) 在International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 學術模式整體分級取得6.5或以上,並在同一次考試中各項個別分級不低於6的成績的人士,在IELTS 考試成績的兩年有效期內,會視為已符合督察職位的英文語文能力要求(即入職條件的(a)(i)項)。IELTS 考試成績必須在申請職位當天仍然有效。
(6) 持有學位的申請人如在獲發聘書時持有綜合招聘考試英文運用及中文運用兩張試卷所需的成績或同等成績,便符合資格獲取學位持有人的起薪點。
(7) 政府在聘任公務員時,2007年前的香港中學會考中國語文科和英國語文科(課程乙) C級及E級成績,在行政上會分別被視為等同2007年或之後香港中學會考中國語文科和英國語文科第3級和第2級成績。
(8) 政府會測試所有應徵公務員職位人士的《基本法》及《香港國安法》知識。在《基本法及香港國安法》測試取得及格成績是所有公務員職位的入職條件。申請人必須在《基本法及香港國安法》測試中取得及格成績方會獲考慮聘用。如申請人在申請公務員職位時仍未曾參加相關的《基本法及香港國安法》測試或未曾在相關的《基本法及香港國安法》測試考獲及格成績,仍可作出申請。他們會被安排在招聘過程中參加相關《基本法及香港國安法》測試。
(9) 新版本的政府職位申請書G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023)會在2023年7月26日正式生效。申請人如在2023年7月26日或之後遞交申請,必須使用新版本的申請書G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023)。如申請人遞交了舊版本的申請書(G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)),招聘部門/職系會要求申請人重新填寫新版本的申請書G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023),並在七日內提交已填妥的G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023)。如申請人在指定限期內未能重新遞交已填妥的新版本申請書G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023),其申請將不獲處理。
職責:
督察需要執行多方面之警務工作,包括管理工作及行動職務,須遵守警隊條例有關紀律事宜的規定,並要穿著制服、輪班及/或不定時工作,亦可能要在香港特區境外範圍工作。
聘用條款:
獲取錄的申請人會按公務員試用條款受聘,試用期為三年。成功通過試用期者將獲當局考慮按當時適用的長期聘用條款受聘。
